What Is a Japanese Auction Item? How Reluxe Vault Sources Preloved Luxury

What Is a Japanese Auction Item? How Reluxe Vault Sources Preloved Luxury
Reluxe Vault Edit

Every Tuesday, something exciting happens at Reluxe Vault: new inventory arrives at the auctions!

Not from a consignment drop-off. Not from a reseller middleman. Directly from Japanese auction platforms where authenticated luxury goods move through a transparent, graded system that the rest of the world is slowly catching up to.

Japanese Sourcing · Preloved Luxury · Authenticated

Directly from Japanese auction platforms where authenticated luxury goods move through a transparent, graded system that the rest of the world is slowly catching up to. Here is why that matters to you as a buyer.

The Culture

Japan Has a Different Relationship With Luxury

In Japan, luxury goods are purchased, treasured, and cared for with a level of attention that is genuinely cultural. When a Japanese owner decides to part with a bag, it typically goes into an authenticated auction system with strict grading standards, detailed photography, and honest condition disclosure.

The result: preloved luxury items that are frequently in better shape than what you would find through local resale, with far more transparency.

The Process

How the Sourcing Works

We review hundreds of items each week across Japanese auction platforms. Every piece is evaluated for condition grade, authenticity markers, pricing, and demand before we even consider bringing it over.

Once selected, items go through domestic shipping and customs before arriving stateside. That process is why you will see a shipping fee and a finders fee built into pricing on The VAULT Finds. We handle all the logistics so you do not have to navigate international shipping, customs paperwork, or currency conversion on your own.

The Standard

What We Look For

Not everything passes our cut. We prioritize:

  • Iconic and in-demand pieces (Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Chanel, Goyard, Celine, and more)
  • Condition grades of B or above
  • Strong authentication signals in the listing photography
  • Fair pricing relative to the US market

The Ranking System

Understanding Japanese Condition Grades

Every item on The VAULT Finds carries a condition grade. Here is what each one means:

  • N rank — Unused, with tags. As close to new as preloved gets.
  • S rank — Unworn, excellent storage condition.
  • SA rank — Used only a few times, like new.
  • A rank — Light use, minor storage wear.
  • AB rank — Minor dirt or small scratches, not immediately visible.
  • B rank — Visible wear from use and storage.
  • BC rank — Wear that affects normal use.
  • C rank — Significant wear.

We focus primarily on A, AB, and B rank items because they represent the best balance of condition and value.

The Value

What You Get

When you shop The VAULT Finds or our main shop, you are getting a piece that has been through two layers of curation: the Japanese auction house's grading process, and our own sourcing eye.

Every piece is then verified through our Entrupy authentication process before it ever reaches a customer. If it does not pass, it does not ship.
